It’s Just Intelligence

It’s Just Intelligence

If it weren’t enough that learning had different definitions, now intelligence has no definite definition! It’s mind-boggling, isn’t it? Although, after reading the materials, I now think that it just stresses people out when it’s not supposed to. After all, it’s just intelligence.

The Stress and Pressures of Intelligence Testing

No matter what theory of intelligence we believe in, I think that it’s not to be stressed about. I can remember people crying over IQ or intelligence scores when we should know that these scores are just categories we are placed in for further improvement and it is the first step towards proper mental development. I realized that we should instead have a positive mindset when taking the test since we are going to get the help we need. However, it is, of course, a very difficult implementation in our society and culture.

What IS the Difference of Intelligence, Knowledge and Talents?

Where is the line between being smart, being knowledgeable about something and being good at something through practice?

I realized that along the way of the evolving definition of intelligence, we used the observation of our abilities as a measurement of our intelligence. However, these abilities then became a type of intelligence instead. My take on this makes me think that anything we do is associated with intelligence. Would that mean that the quality of our abilities is an intelligence.

Shouldn’t there be a fundamental definition of intelligence instead? The similarities I saw between all the theories was that intelligence includes or is associated with our innate cognitive abilities and our accumulated knowledge.

I would like to further exert my belief that maybe we should just define intelligence as our God-given ability to think, perceive and choose. Think about it. Everything we do is just a consequence of our mental abilities. We can then see that intelligence is different from knowledge, abilities, skills, and mere talents.

Summing Up Intelligence to it’s Implication to Us Learners

My special “AHA!” instance was when I realized that intelligence is just a part of me, but I can do my best to use it to the best of my abilities and make a difference.

No matter what, intelligence is a part of us which we can use to survive and strive. Some people have good levels of it, some people don’t. And that’s life. But if we see the brighter side of life and use our own capabilities to it’s best, we achieve our goals with no regrets. I do believe that a growth mindset is the way to go, and we should not enforce ourselves into a fixed one.
